Vityaz coach Andrey Nazarov says even a point against one of the KHL’s leaders, Dynamo Moscow, is still a good result for his men.
The Muscovites held on at home against lowly Vityaz Chekhov, winning 3-2 after a nail-biting shootout.
Dynamo were 2-1 up going into the game’s final minute when Mikhail Anisin equalized for the visitors, 2-2.
The overtime was scoreless, but three missed attempts in the shootout would cost the visitors dearly.
Dynamo also missed two, but not the crucial one as Czech Marek Kvapil sealed the deal for the Blue-and-Whites.
“We planned to deprive one of the leaders of the championship of some points, and we did it,” Vityaz coach, Andrey Nazarov, said. “Of course, luck was on our side at some moments, but the guys worked really hard tonight. And we are going to continue moving in this direction.”
Ironically, it was Dynamo who got more penalty minutes playing against the leagues roughest teams as all Vityaz’s infamous tough-guys had been disqualified or injured.
“They [the tough-guys] are our brothers, and we miss them,” Nazarov added.
After the game, Dynamo climbed to third-place in the league, while Vityaz remain on the second from bottom rung of the KHL.
06.12, 12:44A major face-lift that will give it four conferences instead of the current structure of two conferences and six divisions awaits the NHL. The radical plan was approved by the league’s officials on Monday.
